		Subject: Enging Tuner || New Question Sender's Name: paul davies Question: hi just an update , i have decided on using a smart car body shell but not a standard engine, the engine will come from a toyota mr2 after much measuring and deliberation over many cars at a scrap yard, as it just about fits with a few modifications and i will use the loom and ecu from the doner mr2 obviously modified to fit etc the question i am asking are these engines reliable enough to be modified. The engine will have been stripped rebored and upgraded on pistons, camshaft and a turbo if possible etc thnx paul d Answer: Hi Paul - I'd recommend leaving it alone if you have to do this at all! My view is the short wheelbase will give horrendous handling qualities and could even turn out to be downright dangerous. I think if I was mad enough to do it, I'd go for a bike engine, on the basis that a low torque but high revving engine would be much more like it, and a total hoot. You wouldn't have a heavy engine at the back to deal with either. Think about it! Smart/Kawasaki 1100? Wow..

However, i\'ve just taken delivery of an 09 merc 200cdi saloon and recall you previously saying what a significant difference you can make to these engines. What can you do with this 130(ish) bhp model without sacfificing economy and at what cost? Answer: Hi Paul - these chip up really well. Generally a 30/40 bhp increase, with 50ft lb torque. We did a similar car for a taxi driver recently, who said he'd gained 8% in fuel economy. Cost is £435 inc vat if it's a V spire set up, we'd need to plug in to make sure. Just drop in anytime.
		Subject: Enging Tuner || New Question Sender's Name: paul davies Question: hi i am in the process of building a modified fortwo smart car, i was going to upgrade the engine i.e. forged pistons , conrod lightened flywheel etc among the list, but the hurdle i have encountered is nobody does or will do the modified pistons unless i pay for tooling,, the question i am asking is i am looking at putting an oversize engine into this car , whatever will fit(got to sort that out yet) ,so is it worth buying a complete donor car or just the engine and box and then using the smart ecu, with a remap, and electrics with the donor engine or would it be best to strip the donor car and transfer the electrical loom and ecu across , modifying to fit in with the smart cars dials , lights etc Answer: Blimey .. I know Brabus have got at one or two of these, but I'm not sure if we could get anywhere with the existing management system. We could have custom pistons made without any bother, but I think that might be the least of your problems!
