Question: Hi. I\'m after tuning my smart fortwo engine. It\'s currently a 698cc turbo with 61bhp. The same block however is used in the roadster version so by simply swapping the turbo, injectors and cam it goes up to 101bhp and mappers have got this to 130bhp. I know they\'re small numbers but in a 750kg car, it\'s abit more impressive. The smart scene is also very into modification and the majority seem to have a remap of some sort. Most people however don\'t seem to go much past the 130bhp due to long term reliability and because after that, things start to get pricey. I\'m interested in trying to go past it. I know there\'s bike engine conversions but I\'d like to keep the torque and the standard gearbox so want to see what could be done with the standard engine. There was one pushed to 167bhp but it threw a (standard) rod. Would you take on something like this and what would you recommend to allow it to run higher figures? I\'m currently thinking forged rods and pistons but not sure what else
Answer: We've never got into these, so it's hard for me to advise you well. I know Brabus had a go at them, but I dare say there is another specialist about somewhere. All I know is they are tricky to dyno test due to a devilish traction control system!

Question: Hi there, I have a 91 mk2 golf 16v and was looking for turbo technics conversion kit for the KR engine. Was directed to yourselves from their site. Basically wondered if you could offer any info? Also would this be able to be fitted to an ABF 2ltr EFi? If so what sort of price/ power outputs would I be looking at? Best Regards & Cheers in advance AL
Answer: Hi Al - I know there aren't any manifolds going at the moment, and that's the one bit you have to have. The conversion consisted of an engine build to begin with, to reduce the compression ratio. TT modified the con rods. They ran at up to 185 bhp. I dare say it could be replicated now, but professionally, expect to pay around £5000 fo it.

Question: hi alan..im thinking of getting some mods to my evo 6 and have already purchased a walbro fuel pump,im also wanting to get a boost controller?which would you reccommend i purchase?once i have my mods i will be down to you for you to do your magic?thanks kate
Answer: Hi Kate - We've been using the Turbosmart E boost street recently, a great bit of kit for only £200 plus vat. We've found the boost control to be as good as those costing twice the price. If you'd like one, just let us know. We can also install it, as well as set the car up of course.

Question: Hello Alan, Does the 2.9 twin turbo technics sierra use an uprated oil pump and cam or are they the factory standard items. Thank you for your time.
Answer: There hasn't been an uprated pump available for the Cologne engine for some time now, so I don't think you have much choice! In any event, they weren't modified from standard, along with the cam. I wouldn't recommend a cam profile change.

Question: I built a Raw striker with a 4AGE 20v motor running OMEX 3D ECU - 500 series i think. It has a standard map supplied by RAW but I was considering a rolling road setup. Do you have any experience with this engine, and likely gains i might get? What would be a ballpark price? Thanks
Answer: Little specific experience of that engine, but then a dyno enables you to make use of basic principles such as minimum best timing and air/fuel ratio targets. We have experience with Omex, and should cope just fine.
